California Science Test (CaST)
- Grades 5, 8, 11, and 12
- Assesses Next Generation Science Standards
- The purpose of the field test is to establish the reliability and validity of items; no student scores will be produced
California Alternate Assessment (CalAlt)
- Grades 3-8 and 11,
- English-language Arts and Mathematics tests
- Each subject is an adaptive test with three "stopping points":
Student Response Check: students establish that they can orient to questions and communicate responses
- Stage 1: students see items from all 3 cognitive levels of questioning ("router items")
- Stage 2: students see items from the single (1) most appropriate level of questioning ("non-router items")
*CAT: Computer Adaptive Test, where the computer presents more/less difficult items based on student response to previous items for a more precise measurement of student achievement
**PT: Performance Task, assessment comprised of series of constructed responses and/or essay items related to a single task or topic.
